Norway: Land of Fjords, and One of the World's Most Expensive Travel Destinations

Norway's travel costs rank among the world's highest — but the tradeoff is access to some of earth's most extraordinary natural scenery. Sognefjord (the world's longest fjord), Geirangerfjord (UNESCO World Heritage), Preikestolen, Trolltunga — each one is a destination that travelers willingly organize entire trips around. Preikestolen and Trolltunga: The Photo Is Worth the Hike

Preikestolen (the 604m cliff plateau overlooking Lysefjord) takes approximately 4 hours return; signal is intermittent on the trail but typically 1–2 bars at the summit — sufficient to upload that iconic cliff-edge sitting shot. Trolltunga's trail takes 10–12 hours return with almost no signal throughout; offline navigation is the only practical approach for the full route.
